LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 8) - The Saint Vincent men's soccer team dropped a tough 2-1 double overtime decision to Westminster College at the SVC Turf.

Both teams played through a scoreless first half, as strong defensive play held both teams off the board. The visiting Titans held an 8-5 shot advantage over the first 45 minutes of action.

Westminster finally broke through on offense, tallying the game's first goal in the 71st minute, when Zack Walters shot from about 30 yards out after SVC turned the ball over when trying to clear.

The Bearcats earned their shot at the equalizer in the 83rd minute, after Westminster was charged with a foul in the box after a scramble. Senior Zach Kocak buried the penalty kick, tying the match at 1-1.

Both teams had a few more scoring chances but were held in check as the game went to overtime. After both teams were held scoreless in the first OT session, the Titans finally earned victory with a goal off a direct kick by Fedja Smajic in the 108th minute of action.

Westminster held a slight 27-25 shot advantage over SVC, including a 14-11 edge in shots on goal. The Titans had 16 corner kicks, while SVC had seven corners in the contest.

Freshman goalkeeper Nick Bohn took the loss in net despite making 12 saves in more than 107 minutes of action. Offensively, Mark O'Grady had a match-high seven shots, while Kocak added five.

The loss drops SVC to 1-2 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play and 2-10 overall. Westminster improved to 2-1 in the PAC and 5-5-2 overall.

The Bearcats return to action at Bethany on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Start time is set for 3:30 p.m. in West Virginia.
