LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 19) - The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-5 decision to Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky. in a rematch of last year's Ohio River Lacrosse Championship game.
Transylvania rattled off the first seven goals, building a 7-0 halftime lead over the Bearcats.
SVC got on the board with a goal from
Tim Oxenreiter early in the third quarter. After a Pioneers score,
Alex Mueser tallied two goals to bring SVC within five at 8-3.
Jeremy Kennedy then added the next two goals to bring SVC within three at 8-5 early in the fourth quarter.
However, Transylvania locked down defensively from there and added an insurance goal to help preserve the victory.
Mueser and Kennedy led the offense with two goals, while Oxenreiter chipped in one. Kennedy also added an assist to total three points.
Ryan Filyo tallied two assists in the loss.
The Bearcats drop to 0-1 in ORLC play and 1-4 overall. Transy improves to 1-0 in the league and 2-4 overall. The Bearcats return to action when they host Bethany College on Wednesday, March 23. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
