PHOTO GALLERYCLERMONT, Fla. (March 2) - After holding a brief lead early on, the Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team dropped a 20-7 decision to Capital University at the NTC Complex in Clermont, Fla.
Junior
Hannah Carroll opened the scoring with a SVC goal with 25:53 remaining in the opening half of action. The Crusaders responded with the next nine goals, taking a 9-1 edge with 17:30 left in the period.
Maggie Nelson stopped the run with an unassisted goal but Capital would answer back with another score to make it 10-2.
Saint Vincent closed the first half strong, scoring three of the next four goals. Carroll scored the first and then Nelson added the next two, including one off an assist from Carroll. That run brought the halftime score to 11-5 in favor of Capital.
The Crusaders opened the second half with four straight goals, pushing the lead to double digits, at 15-5 with 21:06 to play.
Carroll once again stopped the run, tallying another goal, this time off an assist from junior
Sarah Wallerstedt. Nelson would round of the SVC scoring shortly thereafter with her fourth goal of the contest. Capital finished off the game with the final four scores, closing the score at 20-7.
Capital held a 23-13 edge in shots and a 16-13 advantage in draw controls in the contest. Nelson tallied a team-high seven shots for the Bearcats.

Maria Franey each possessed four ground balls to lead SVC. Shoplik has six draw controls.
SVC returns to action tomorrow evening when they face Johnson & Wales University in Florida. Start time is slated for 7 p.m.
