PHOTO GALLERYLATROBE, Pa. (March 30) - The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team held an early lead before falling 13-5 to Baldwin Wallace University at Chuck Noll Field in non-conference action.
Things started well for the Bearcats, who scored early and often to take a 4-0 lead over the first 10 minutes of play.
Alex Mueser got SVC on the board with an unassisted score less than a minute in.
Brendon Masten and
Jeremy Kennedy then tallied scores to push the lead to 3-0 before Mueser added another goal for the Bearcats.
Visiting Baldwin-Wallace then raced back with four straight goals of their own to tie the contest at 4-4 after 15 minutes. The defenses took control in the second quarter, as each team mustered just one goal each. Mueser gave the Bearcats the lead off a pass from
Hunter Sharp, making it 5-4 with 6:57 left in the half. However, just seconds later B-W answered with a score right after the face-off win, tying the score at 5-5. The two teams went scoreless for the remainder of the quarter and things were tied at halftime.
The second half belonged to the Yellow Jackets, who outscored SVC 5-0 in the third quarter and 3-0 in the fourth to earn the victory. B-W held a 27-10 advantage in shots in the second half alone to gain control.
Mueser led SVC with three goals, while
Jon Souders added two points with a pair of assists. Senior goalkeeper
Greg Gonzalez made 17 saves in the loss.
The win improved Baldwin-Wallace to 7-1 overall, while SVC drops to 2-5.
Saint Vincent travels to Westminster College on Saturday, April 2 for an Ohio River Lacrosse Conference contest. Start time is slated for 1 p.m. against the first-year Titans.
