The SVC softball team won a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference games against visiting Thiel College on a chilly afternoon in Latrobe.  Final scores were 3-1 and 9-7.

In game one, SVC got off to an early 1-0 lead over the Tomcats after picking up one run in the bottom of the second. The Bearcats scored their first run after Breanne Wallace reached on an error to second base, scoring Emily Duerr from third.

The Bearcats continued to hold off Thiel and went on to score another run in the bottom of the third inning. SVC scored off a Duerr double to center field. The RBI double gave the Bearcats a 2-0 lead over Thiel.

SVC picked up their third run to extend their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning off a solo home run to deep center field from Shelby Noel.

Samantha Emert pitched well for the Bearcats and allowed Thiel to cross the plate only once, in the top of the sixth inning. Emert finished the game with a quick 1-2-3 seventh and earned the win, improving her record on the season to 9-2.

In game two Thiel took an early 3-0 lead over the Bearcats, scoring three runs off four hits and a SVC defensive error.

SVC responded immediately in the bottom of the first.  Sarah Swettlen led off with a double, then moved to third on a Courtney Patterson single.  Noel then tied the game with her second home run of the afternoon.  Duerr then reached on an error and later scored on a double by Kelsey Hunter that made the score 4-3.  Mackenzie Gostomski then singled, and both runners later scored on a Swettlen single, making it a 7-3 game after an inning.

The Bearcats added another two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, including a home run off the bat of Noel. This was Noel's second home run of the doubleheader.

Patterson hit a two-run double in the fifth to extend the lead to 9-3, before the visitors scored a pair of runs in the 6th to make it a 9-5 game.

Despite running into a bit of trouble in the bottom of the seventh, Duerr got out of the jam and picked up the win allowing 10 hits over the course of the game. Duerr is now 8-3 on the season.

SVC is now 17-7 overall on the season, 5-1 in the PAC.
