PHOTO GALLERYLATROBE, Pa. (April 13) - The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team dropped a 10-5 decision to rival Washington & Jefferson in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference action.
W&J led SVC 4-0 after the first quarter and the Bearcats were forced to play catch up the rest of the game. Saint Vincent tried to get some momentum going in the second quarter, out-scoring W&J by a 2-1 margin over the 15 minutes.
Alex Mueser and
Brendon Masten each scored off assists from
Anthony Hogeback, helping SVC pull within 5-2 at halftime.
Hunter Sharp and
Jeremy Kennedy tallied back-to-back scores for SVC in the third, bringing the Bearcats within two at 6-4 at the 7:19 mark. After a man-up goal by W&J, Saint Vincent answered back with a goal by Kennedy with 15 seconds left in the quarter, making it 7-5 heading to the fourth quarter.
Unfortunately for the Bearcats, they were shut out in the final period while W&J added three more scores to put the game away at 10-5.
Devon Curran led the Presidents with five goals in the contest, while Kennedy paced SVC with two scores.
Trevor Hough had eight groundball picks for the Bearcats. Senior
Greg Gonzalez started in net and played all 60 minutes in the loss, making seven saves.
SVC held a 31-30 edge in shots. The Presidents were dominant in face-offs, winning 15 of the 18 in the game.
The loss dropped Saint Vincent to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in ORLC play. Meanwhile, W&J improved to 3-10 overall and 2-2 in league play.
Saint Vincent travels to Thiel College on Saturday, April 16. Start time is slated for 1 p.m.
