WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 16) - The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team lost 14-6 on the road to the Washington & Jefferson College Presidents in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference action.
W&J got on the board first with a goal less than three minutes into the contest. SVC answered back two minutes later when sophomore
Maggie Nelson tallied her 50th goal of the season, tying the game momentarily. The teams then exchanged the next two goals as well. After a Presidents goal, senior
Helena Shoplik recorded an unassisted goal to tie things up at 2-2 with 15:36 left in the first half.
The Presidents would then out-score SVC 5-0 for the remainder of the halftime to take a 7-2 edge after 30 minutes. SVC and W&J played evenly through the first 12 minutes of the second half, as the Presidents held a 10-5 advantage with 18:05 left. Nelson,
Sarah Wallerstedt and
Jess Heuler recorded a goal each during that time.
The host Presidents put the game away with four of the last five games of the game. The only goal during that time was by Nelson.
Despite the final score, Saint Vincent was only out-shot by a 27-23 differential, including 22-19 on goal. Groundballs (29-29) and Draw Controls (11-11) were exactly even between the two teams.
Nelson led the Bearcats with three goals, stretching her season total to 52. Freshman
Maria Franey suffered the loss in goal, making eight saves. Senior

Saint Vincent drops to 5-2 in the ORLC and 5-9 overall. W&J improved to 6-0 in the league and 9-4 overall.
The Bearcats have two contests left in the regular season next week. SVC travels to Franciscan for a non-conference matchup on Thursday, April 21. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
