The Saint Vincent women's tennis team became the first to open NCAA play for the college in 2016-17, and posted an 8-1 victory over Waynesburg University on the road.
In a match listed as a non-conference season opener, the Bearcats won all three doubles matches then captured five of six singles points.
Autumn Miller and
Breana Liberoni had to go to a tiebreaker to win their #1 doubles match by a score of 9-8. Â In the #2 position,
Katherine Palko and
Sarah Selip were 8-3 winners. Â Waynesburg had only five competitors, so SVC won the #3 doubles match by forfeit.
Liberoni, Palko, Selip and
Tori Monstrola were all straight-set winners in singles. Â Monstrola did not lose a game, winning 6-0, 6-0 in her collegiate debut.
SVC will host Pitt-Greensburg on Friday (September 2) in the team's home opener.
