LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 10) - Despite holding a lead for the majority of the contest, La Roche rallied late to defeat the Saint Vincent men's soccer team, 2-1 at the SVC Turf.
Saint Vincent got out to a first half lead when sophomore
Zachary D'Amico tallied his first score of the season, off an assist from
Nick Gaudy in the 23rd minute of action. The Bearcats were able to take that lead into halftime, giving them their first edge after 45 minutes this season.
La Roche took over offensively in the second half, tying the game in the 59th minute. The game stayed that way until the Redhawks got the eventual game-winning score in the 85th minute of action.
The Redhawks out-shot the Bearcats 23-8 for the game, including a 13-4 edge in the second half. Freshman goalkeeper
Nick Bohn started in goal, making eight saves in 90 minutes of play.
Saint Vincent returns to action when they host Pitt-Greensburg for the Westmoreland County Cup on Monday, Sept. 13. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
