NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 17) - The Saint Vincent women's tennis team lost by an 8-1 margin to Westminster College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup.
The Bearcats picked up their lone with at third doubles, where seniors
Maria Gismondi and
Anita Onufer defeated the Titan tandem of Patricia Pivaronas and C. Vucenovic, by an 8-4 score. The pairing of
Susie Ellis and
Lucy Bujdos fell 8-4 at first doubles, while
Breana Liberoni and
Autumn Miller also lost by an 8-4 score at second doubles.
Senior
Susie Ellis battled hard at first singles. After Ellis dropped the first set 6-1, she came back with a 6-1 win of her own. Her opponent, Gabby Eaborn, took the tiebreaker 10-7 to claim the win. The Bearcats fell in straight sets in each of the other singles matches.
SVC, who started 3-0, has now lost three straight. The Bearcats sit at 3-3 overall and 1-2 in conference action. The Titans, who are the defending PAC team champions, pushed their 2016 record to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in league play.
Saint Vincent travels to W&J on Wednesday, Sept. 21 for an evening match. Start time is slated for 6:30 p.m. under the lights.
