LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 17) - The Saint Vincent volleyball team split a non-conference tri-match, falling 3-1 to Penn State Fayette before bouncing back with a 3-0 win over Mount Aloysius.
Saint Vincent started slow against Penn State Fayette, dropping the first set 25-18 to the Roaring Lions. The Bearcats battled back to the the match, with a 25-18 victory in the second set. However, Fayette outlasted SVC 25-18 in the third and held off the Bearcats 25-18 in the fourth set.
Senior outside hitter
Emily Vaughan led the Bearcats against Fayette, tallying a season-best 17 kills and adding 20 digs. Sophomore libero
Sydni Massinger recorded a team-high 30 digs in the loss.
The Bearcats earned a split, sweeping past the visiting Mounties, by a 3-0 score. Saint Vincent won by set scores of 25-22, 25-17 and 25-17. After struggling hitting in the first match, Saint Vincent saw vast improvement against Mount Aloysius.
SVC saw three players record double-digit kill performances, led by freshman
Sarah Wozniak, who racked up a team-best 11 kills and only committed one attack error. Vaughan tallied 10 kills and 15 digs to round out a solid day for the senior. Senior outside hitter
Kayla Stockenus rounded out the strong trio of hitters, adding 10 kills and only committing one attack error.
Sophomore
Marisa O'Dell led with a team-best 29 assists. Massinger added a team-high 21 digs and sophomore
Danielle Wassick notched a team-best four blocks.
Saint Vincent totaled 11 service aces in the match, getting three each from
Nina Beatrice,
Olivia London and Massinger.
The split moves Saint Vincent's record to 7-7 overall for the season. Mount Aloysius swept Fayette 3-0 in the middle match of the day. The Lions are now 7-3 while Mount Aloysius moved to 3-8.
The Bearcats return to conference play against Bethany College on Wednesday, Sept. 21. Match time in West Virginia is set for 7 p.m.
