LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 2) - The Saint Vincent volleyball team downed Pitt-Greensburg 3-2 before falling 3-0 to Allegheny College on the opening day of the annual Bearcat Challenge.
SVC looked like they were going to coast to victory in the opener, taking the first two sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-16. However, the Bobcats rallied to take the third set 26-24 before rolling to a 25-8 margin in the fourth set. The fifth set was back and forth before SVC pulled away to take the decisive set 15-12.

Emily Vaughan led the way with 14 kills while classmate
Emily Samara notched 12 kills. Sophomore setter
Nina Beatrice recorded 39 assists. SVC had six service aces, including three from freshman
Sarah Wozniak. Vaughan led a balanced defensive effort with 22 digs. Sophomore
Danielle Wassick tallied five blocks.
Saint Vincent dropped the second match of the day to the visiting Gators, by set scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-22. The Bearcats were tied at 14-14 in the first set before seeing the Gators close on an 11-1 for the set win. SVC was close again in the third set as things were tied 22-22 before Allegheny rattled off the last three points for the set win to clinch the match.
Wozniak led the way with eight kills and three service aces. Junior outside hitter
Courtney Meyer added six successful attacks. Beatrice posted 22 assists and 10 digs in the loss, while sophomore
Sydni Massinger added 10 digs.
The Bearcats (1-1) return to action tomorrow when they host Carlow University at 9 a.m. and Franciscan University at 3 p.m. on day two of the Bearcat Challenge at the Carey Center.
