The SVC men's soccer team fought hard but lost 1-0 to a tough squad from Hood College on the road in Maryland in the team's final non-conference tuneup.
Hood dominated the statistics on the day, outshooting Saint Vincent by a 22-8 margin, but only 9 of their shots were on goal, while SVC posted 5 on net for the afternoon. Â
The Bearcats had a close call in the 15th minute, when
Sebastian Lambert's shot appeared to be headed for the back of the net, but a diving stop by Hood's Danny Castillo kept the game scoreless, and the teams went into the break still knotted at 0-0.
In the 66th minute, Alec van Bronkhorst tallied the game's only goal.
Nick Bohn took the loss in the net for the Bearcats (1-8), but posted 8 saves on the afternoon.
The team will have a week off before starting conference play on Saturday, October 1 at Thomas More College.
