LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 24) - The Saint Vincent women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 loss to Franciscan University in non-conference action at the SVC Courts.
Despite dropping all nine matches, the Bearcats were competitive using an all-senior lineup on Senior Day. The tandem of
Lauren Campbell and
Breana Liberoni fell 9-7 in a tight matchup at third doubles.
Singles play saw three matches go into tiebreakers. After dropping the first set 6-4,
Susie Ellis responded with a 6-3 second set win to force a tiebreaker at first singles. However, Ellis dropped a the tiebreaker by a 12-10 score.
Playing up two spots at second singles, Liberoni also fought hard to get into a tiebreaker. After dropping the first set 6-1, Liberoni responded with a 7-5 win in the second before falling 10-7 in the tiebreaker. Campbell was the third Bearcat to make it to a tiebreaker in singles play. After falling 6-4 in the first set, Campbell rallied back with a 6-4 victory in set two but dropped the tiebreaker by a 10-3 margin.
Anita Onufer (3rd),
Maria Gismondi (4th) and
Sarah Selip (6th) all won games in their respective singles matches but fell in straight sets.
Saint Vincent is now 4-5 overall for the season and will host Division II Seton Hill University on Monday, Sept. 26. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
