LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 24) - The Saint Vincent volleyball earned a split of a Presidents' Athletic Conference tri-match at the Carey Center. After falling 3-0 to first place Thomas More, the Bearcats bounced back for a 3-2 win over Grove City.

In the opener the Saints took the match with set scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-19 over the Bearcats. Saint Vincent held leads in the second and third set but the defending champion Saints rallied back each time. Saint Vincent was led by sophomore Marisa O'Dell, who tallied six kills and 10 assists. Sophomore Sydni Massinger collected 14 digs on the defensive end and also produced three service aces. SVC totaled eight service aces and Thomas More committed 11 service errors in the match.

Saint Vincent squeezed out the first set against Grove City, winning by a 26-24 score. After holding an early lead in the second set, the visiting Wolverines pulled away for a 25-22 score to tie the match at 1-1. Grove City used that momentum to claim the third set, 25-17.

The Wolverines looked poised to finish off the win, leading 19-17 in the fourth set. However, Saint Vincent responded with three straight points to take a 20-19 lead. The run was started by a kill by Kayla Stockenus and then followed up with back-to-back attack errors by GCC. After a point tied it for Grove City, the Bearcats finished off the set four win with a 5-2 run.

Grove City pushed out to a 7-4 lead in the fifth and decisive set but Saint Vincent rallied with an 11-1 run to take the match. Nina Beatrice helped spark the run with a pair of service aces.

Seniors Emily Vaughan and Emily Samara posted strong showings in the win. Vaughan racked up a team-best 14 kills and 20 digs, while Samara tallied 13 kills. O'Dell tallied 29 assists, 18 digs, 8 kills and 4 service aces. Sarah Wozniak produced 7 kills and 6 blocks, while Danielle Wassick added a team-best seven blocks.

With the split, Saint Vincent moves to 8-9 overall and 3-3 in the PAC. With a pair of losses, Grove City drops to 5-12 overall and 2-3 in the league. Thomas More pushed its PAC best record to 6-0 and sit at 8-7 overall.
