LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 7) - The Saint Vincent College volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to nationally-ranked Carnegie Mellon University at the Carey Center.
The visiting Tartans, who entered the match ranked 25th in the most recent AVCA poll, improved to 5-0 overall with set scores of 25-12, 25-12 and 25-12.
Saint Vincent put together its best performance of the evening in set two, taking early leads of 5-1 and 8-4 before seeing the Tartans rattle off four straight points to tie the match at 8-8. Saint Vincent would counter with a point to make it 9-8 but that was their last lead of the set. CMU would later finish the second set on a 17-3 run.

Emily Samara tallied a team-best six kills on the night, while sophomore
Sydni Massinger racked up a team-high 13 digs.
CMU totaled 32 kills in the match, while Saint Vincent had just 15 as a team. Carnegie Mellon had a big advantage in service aces, racking up 12.
Saint Vincent drops to 3-2 overall for the season. The Bearcats return to action when they take part in The Northwest PA Challenge Tournament at Penn State Behrend on Friday and Saturday. SVC faces the host Lions Friday at 4 p.m.
