NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Oct. 14) - The Saint Vincent men's soccer team suffered an 8-0 road loss to Westminster College in a night match at Harold Burry Stadium.
Westminster dominated from the outset, opening the scoring in the 5th minute of action. The host Titans would add two more goals in the first half, tallying a goal in the 28th minute and another in the 34th minute.
The Titans did not let up in the second half, adding scores in the 49th, 51st and 64th minutes to make it 6-0. Westminster would tack on two more goals in the final minutes, with a score in the 89th minute and another with just 15 seconds left.
Westminster out-shot SVC by a 22-14 margin in the match, including a 12-6 edge in shots on goal. The Titans held an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks, and a 15-10 edge in fouls. Nick Iregui recorded four goals in the game for Westminster.
Senior goalkeeper
James Antonoplos stopped three shots and surrendered three goals in 45 minutes of action in net.
Ian Garay tallied five shots, while
Josh Kucmeroski recorded four shots.
The loss drops SVC to 3-11-1 overall and 0-5 in PAC play. Westminster moves to 7-6-1 overall and 2-2 in league contests.
Saint Vincent travels to Washington & Jefferson for a PAC road match on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Start time is set for 5:30 p.m.
