LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 4) - The Saint Vincent women's tennis team earned a 7-2 Senior Day victory over visiting Thiel College in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
The win improves the Bearcats to 4-1 in PAC play and 6-5 overall. Meanwhile, Thiel drops to 1-6 in league action and 1-8 overall.
Saint Vincent started the day by winning two of the three doubles matches. The top tandem of junior
Lucy Bujdos and junior
Autumn Miller rolled to an 8-0 victory at first doubles. At third doubles, senior
Katie Egan and sophomore
Tori Monstrola claimed a hard fought 8-6 victory over the Tomcats. SVC nearly swept the doubles matches but junior
Lisa Marthens and senior
Emily Egler were narrowly defeated 9-8 (10-8) in a tiebreaker at second doubles.
The Bearcats would take five of the six singles matches to secure the conference victory. Bujdos made quick work of her opponent at first singles, winning by a 6-1, 6-1 score. Miller would win by a 6-1, 6-3 score at second singles, while sophomore
Claudia Clemens breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles. Sophomore
Kate Palko would add a 6-4, 6-3 victory at fourth singles, while Egan capped a perfect Senior Day with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at sixth singles.
The Bearcats return to action when they host Thomas More College for a PAC match on Friday, Oct. 6.
