The Saint Vincent women's bowling team posted a 2-1 record against Hilbert College on the road in the team's inaugural match.
SVC won its first traditional game by a score of 787-736, then dropped the second by a 769-696 margin. In the series-deciding 5-game Baker set, Saint Vincent was victorious by a score of 726-642.
The Bearcats got off to a quick start in game one, with
Emily Duerr starting the game with a pair of strikes.
Samm Firestone later threw three in a row as SVC opened a short lead. Hilbert started to make a comeback, but
Cassie Murcko threw 2 strikes in the 10th, and
Dani Koehler added strikes in the 9th and 10th as SVC secured a 51 pin victory in game one. Firestone had the top score, with a 204.
Bowling in the leadoff spot, Firestone got SVC off to the early lead in game two with a pair of strikes, but SVC was plagued by 8 splits during the game, losing by 73 pins.
The competition then switched to a 5-game Baker series for the final point. Murcko and Duerr started game one with a spare and strike, giving SVC an early advantage. The Bearcats went on to win the first game by a 12-pin margin, 151-139.
In the second Baker, the match was close until the 9th frame, when Firestone struck and set up Koehler, who made it a double with a strike on the first ball in the 10th. SVC went on to win 146-131 and increase the advantage to 27 pins after two games.
In game three, Murcko struck in both of her frames (1 & 6), and
Rachael Heater struck in the 8th. Firestone made it a double with a strike in the 9th as SVC went on to a 158-138 victory.
SVC won the final two games, 136-122 and 135-112, to earn a total Baker pinfall victory by 84 pins.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Saturday, competing in the Medaille College Tournament. The first series of round-robin Baker play begins at 11AM.
