Four Bearcats scored in double figures as Saint Vincent defeated Waynesburg by a score of 79-65 in Presidents' Athletic Conference action in the Carey Center.
Kayla Slovenec led the way with 17 points as Saint Vincent improved to 3-3 overall, 2-1 in the PAC.
Paige Montrose added 13 points and 8 rebounds, while
Taylor Boring had 12 points and
Carlee Kilgus tallied 10.
Saint Vincent held a one point edge, 7-6, before Kilgus started a 10-0 Bearcat run with a drive through the lane at the 6:30 mark of the first quarter.
Maria Morgan followed with a basket, then Montrose added a jumper with just under five minutes to go. Slovenec then came up with a steal and went coast-to-coast for a score, followed by a runner from
Mara Benvenuti, giving SVC five scores from five different players in a span that lasted just under three minutes.
After a Waynesburg score ended the run and made it a 17-8 game, Slovenec hit a jumper to once again make it an 11-point Saint Vincent lead. Waynesburg closed the gap to eight at the end of the quarter, 24-16.
Boring scored five straight points for the Bearcats to start the second quarter, then
Babette Sanmartin scored on a turnaround jumper. The run continued with an offensive rebound and layup by
Bri Van Volkenburg at the 6:53 mark that made the score 33-16. After a free throw temporarily halted the run, Boring hit another three to give the hosts a 19-point lead. Jumpers by
Erin Giancola and Montrose ended the half, with SVC in front 45-22.
Slovenec tallied five quick points for Saint Vincent early in the second half, then Kilgus added a score that made it 52-27. A steal by Morgan led to another basket by Slovenec that ran the lead to 27.
Waynesburg got within 19 points near the end of the quarter, but a jumper by Boring made it a 60-39 game after three quarters.
A baseline jumper by Van Volkenburg with 8:15 on the clock in the fourth made it 64-42, and the lead was never in danger the rest of the way.
Slovenec had a team-high three steals on the day, while Benvenuti and Van Volkenburg each had six rebounds. Waynesburg was led by Addy Knetzer, who had a game-high 25 points. For the game, SVC out-rebounded their opponents by a 47-28 margin.
Up next for the Bearcats will be a non-conference game at La Roche College on Tuesday night (December 5) at 7PM.
