HIRAM, Ohio (April 10) - The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team earned an 18-13 road victory against Hiram College in non-conference action.
Four players recorded at least five points for the Bearcats in the win over the Terriers.
Hannah Carroll led the way with a match-high 10 points, while classmate
Sarah Wallerstedt added 6 points for SVC.
Katie Stallings and
Maggie Nelson tallied five points apiece.
The host Terriers got off to early leads of 3-1 and 4-2 before SVC took control. The Bearcats used six consecutive goals to surge into the lead at 8-4 with 9:06 left in the first half. Stallings collected four goals during the run that helped SVC seize control.
Hiram answered with a goal to finally stop the run but SVC closed the opening half on a 5-1 run to take a 13-6 lead into the break. Wallerstedt racked up three goals during the late first half run by the Bearcats.
The Terriers opened the second half with three straight goals, cutting the SVC advantage to 13-9 with 27 minutes left. Nelson and Stallings would register back-to-back goals to push the lead the 15-9 at the 17:31 mark. The Bearcats would maintain a lead of at least four goals the rest of the way.
Sophomores
Naomi Schwaiger and
Courtney Kloos also scored a goal each in the contest. Wallerstedt put together a strong all-around game, totaling eight draw controls, seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. Stallings added six draw controls and six ground balls.
Claire Hanna picked up three ground balls in the win, while sophomore goalkeeper
Maria Franey made nine saves.
Autumn Osgood led Hiram with a match-high 7 goals.
The win improves SVC to 6-3 overall, while Hiram falls to 5-5 in 2017.
Saint Vincent returns to ORLC action when they host Waynesburg University on Wednesday, April 10. Start time is set for 4 p.m. at the SVC Turf.
