LATROBE, Pa. (April 19) - An early second half surge helped visiting W&J past the Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team by a 17-11 score in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference action.

W&J, now winners of six straight games overall, used three early goals by Caroline Kallos to take an early advantage over the Bearcats. The Presidents would eventually build a 6-2 lead with 15:03 left in the first half. That is when SVC responded with three straight scores of its own to pull the deficit to 6-5 with 11:13 left in the opening half of play.

Junior Maggie Nelson, senior Sarah Wallerstedt and sophomore Naomi Schwaiger each scored during the Bearcat run, with senior Hannah Carroll tallying a pair of assists.

W&J would counter back with three unanswered scores to build a 9-5 edge with 5:49 showing on the first half clock. The two teams exchanged scores down the stretch of the opening half, with Nelson adding two more goals and junior Katie Stallings scoring off a pass from fellow Greater Latrobe native Courtney Kloos. The Stallings goal came with just 17 seconds left in the first half, making the score 11-8 W&J after 30 minutes.

The Presidents would outscore the Bearcats by a 6-3 margin in the second half en route to the victory. Saint Vincent would get a goal each from Carroll, Nelson and Stallings during the final 30 minutes of action.

Nelson paced the Bearcats with four goals, three assists and seven draw controls in the contest. Carroll added two goals and two assists, while Stallings netted a hat trick as well in the loss with three scores while grabbing six draw controls. Junior defender Alex Piampiano totaled six ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls. Maria Franey took the loss in net, making 11 saves over 60 minutes of play.

The bulk of W&J's scoring came from two players, as Kallos led all scorers with nine goals, while freshman Rae LaRochelle added six goals for the visitors.
