Men's lacrosse team posts ORLC victory in Indiana

Behind three goals each from a trio of Bearcats, the Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team posted a 13-8 victory on the road against Hanover College in Indiana.

The victory was the third straight for the Bearcats in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference play, improving the team to 3-1 in league action and 4-6 overall. Meanwhile, Hanover dropped to 1-3 in ORLC action and 2-9 overall.

Jeremy Kennedy continued his solid play, scoring the first two goals of the contest to give SVC an early 2-1 lead after the 1st Quarter. Scores from Joe Puvel and Kennedy stretched the Bearcats advantage to 4-1 early in the 2nd Quarter. However, Hanover answered with three straight goals to tie the game at 4-4 with 5:44 left in the 2nd.

Hunter Sharp used an unassisted goal to give the Bearcats a 5-4 lead at halftime. The host Panthers would score two of the first three goals in the third to tie the contest for a third time, putting the score at 6-6 with 8:26 remaining in the third.

Late in the third quarter is when the Bearcats took control of the contest, as Sharp and Frank Casile tallied goals to put SVC up 8-6 heading to the fourth quarter.

SVC carried that momentum into the final quarter, getting a goal each from Casile and Anthony Hogeback to push the advantage to 10-6 with 10:08 to play. The Bearcats would outscore Hanover by a 3-2 margin the rest of the way for the ORLC win. Sharp, Puvel and Ben Price each found the back of the net during that time.

Sharp, Kennedy and Puvel each tallied three goals to pace SVC in the win. Casile added a multi-goal effort for the Bearcats. Defensively, Michael Grus picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers.

Junior goalkeeper Connor McMillen earned another win in net, making 16 saves in 60 minutes of action.

After playing the last five contests on the road, Saint Vincent returns home for a non-conference matchup with Franciscan University on Wednesday, April 12. Start time is set for 4 p.m. at Chuck Noll Field.
