Ian Garay had both goals for the Bearcats, including the game-winner in overtime, as Saint Vincent opened the 2017 men's soccer season with a 2-1 win over visiting Penn State-Brandywine.
The game started as a defensive battle, with most of the action in the middle of the field. Neither team recorded a shot until the 9th minute, and the game remained scoreless until the final five minutes of the first half.
Chris Riebman scored with 4:28 left, heading the ball into the back of the net off a set piece corner kick from Rajbir Lohat, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
With 1:55 remaining,
Zach D'Amico sent a pass to Garay, who tallied his first career goal, tying the game at 1-1.
The second half was once again a defensive battle, with physical play on both sides of the ball. Both teams were substituting liberally trying to find fresh legs, but neither team managed to score in the second half, sending the game into overtime.
With 46 seconds left in the first extra period,
Sebastian Lambert sent a pass into the box, where Garay headed it past a diving goalkeeper for the game-winner, lifting the Bearcats to the season opening win.
James Antonoplos went the distance in the net for the Bearcats, recording 11 saves.
