Mark O'Grady scored a pair of goals to lead Saint Vincent to a 3-1 victory over Penn State-Altoona in a non-conference game on the Saint Vincent turf.
The teams played evenly through most of the first half, despite the Bearcats having two shots hit the crossbar, first by
Josh Kucmeroski then by
Jack Bethune. Â
Later, an errant attempt by the Bearcats to clear the ball from inside the goal area bounced off Altoona's Vikrant Kumar and into the net in the 38th minute, putting the Lions in front, 1-0. Â The visitors' lead wouldn't last long, as
Nick Gaudy sent a pass deep into the left corner in the 43rd minute. Â O'Grady took the pass, avoided a defender, and took a shot from what appeared to be a nearly impossible angle along the end line. Â However, the shot found the lower right corner of the net, tying the game and swinging the momentum to the Bearcats.
Just over two minutes into the second half, a foul near midfield set up a free kick by Gaudy. Â He placed the ball 40 yards into the box, where
Michael Bethune received it and sent a one-touch pass to
Zach D'Amico, who scored into the lower left corner of the net with what would prove to be the game-winner.
In the 71st minute, O'Grady scored again, this time doing the work by himself.  He took possession of the ball near midfield and took the ball the rest of the way, virtually untouched, scoring his second goal of the game.
For the game, SVC held a slight edge in shots, 19-18. Â
James Antonoplos recorded the win in the net, making six saves.
SVC is now 3-4-1 on the year, while Altoona falls to 1-6.
