BETHANY, W.Va. (Sept. 5) - The Saint Vincent women's tennis team downed Bethany College by an 8-1 score to open Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
The Bearcats used a dominant performance in the conference opener, claiming all three doubles matches before taking five of the six singles matches.
Lucy Bujdos and
Autumn Miller won by an 8-3 margin at first doubles, while
Katie Palko and
Claudia Clemens took victory at second doubles by the same score. The third doubles tandem of
Tori Monstrola and
Lisa Marthens breezed to an 8-1 victory.
Four of the five singles wins came in straight sets for the Bearcats. Miller won 6-2, 6-0 at the second singles spot, while Clemens took her third singles match by a 6-2, 6-1 tally. Palko was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at the fourth singles spot, while Marthens was victorious by a 6-2, 6-1 score at fifth singles.
Carson Snyder earned her victory at sixth singles. After dropping the first set 6-4, Snyder breezed to a 6-0 set two victory before winning 10-4 in the third set tiebreak.
Saint Vincent improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in PAC play. Meanwhile, Bethany drops to 0-1 overall and in PAC play.
The Bearcats host local rival Pitt-Greensburg for a non-conference match on Sunday, Sept. 10. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
