LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 6) - A second half score helped visiting Mount Aloysius College beat Saint Vincent 1-0 in non-conference action.
Both teams battled through a scoreless first half, with the Mounties holding a narrow 6-5 shot advantage after 45 minutes of play.
Mount Aloysius got the only got it needed when Amanda Brancato found the back of the net in the 60th minute, lifting the ball into the top right corner of the goal. Saint Vincent came up short in its effort to tie the game in the final minutes. Perhaps its best chance came off a corner kick from
Calsey Holshue that
Kristin Marsh tapped just wide right of the net with 32 seconds left.
Junior goalkeeper
Corinne Burk recorded five saves in 90 minutes of action in net. Marsh, Holshue and
Natalie Luppold tallied four shots each to pace the offense.
The game was even on the stat sheet. Both teams recorded five saves, three corner kicks and seven fouls in the contest. SVC held a 14-12 advantage in shots, with Mount Aloysius putting six shots on net compared to five for the Bearcats.
Saint Vincent falls to 0-2-0 overall on the season, while Mount Aloysius improves to 2-0-1.
The Bearcats travel to La Roche College for a non-conference contest against the Redhawks on Friday, Sept. 8. Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
