LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 2) - The Saint Vincent women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to visiting Geneva College in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at UPMC Field.
The Golden Tornadoes opened the scoring with a strike from Erin Hauser that hit the cross bar and fell into the net in the 10th minute of play.
Natalie Luppold had the answer for the Bearcats, tallying a goal on a penalty kick after Geneva committed a handball in the box in the 20th minute. The Luppold score, her fourth goal of the season, tied the match at 1-1.
Geneva would regain the lead for good when Hauser scored off a through ball pass from the PAC point leader (Erin Schoeneweis) in the 28th minute. The goal allowed the GT's to enter the half with a 2-1 advantage over the home team.
Around 10 minutes into the second half, a storm rolled into Latrobe, forcing the teams to the locker room. The weather delay lasted for a little less than two hours before play resumed. Saint Vincent controlled the ball for a good portion of this time but could only record one shot on goal over the final 30 minutes.
For the game, Geneva held advantages in shots (15-9) and shots on goal (12-5). SVC held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks and a 10-4 advantage in saves over Geneva.
Luppold recorded a team-best a team-high four shots, including the lone SVC goal.
Kristin Marsh added two shots on goal.
Abigail Johnson started in net, stopping 10 Geneva shots in 90 minutes of action.
The loss drops Saint Vincent to 0-2 in PAC play and 4-6 overall. Geneva moves to 2-0 in league play and 6-5 overall.
The Bearcats travel to Thiel College for a league match on Saturday, Oct. 6. Start time is set for 1 p.m. in Greenville.
