LATROBE, Pa. (Dec. 7) - The Saint Vincent Bearcat swim teams fell to the University of Mount Union Raiders in a non-conference meet at Resnik Pool. The women lost 142-120 while the men suffered a 152-110 setback.
The respective losses drop each team to 2-3 overall for the season.
The women began the meet with a close second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The quartet of
Ciara Lewis,
Carly Grove,
Lauren Krecota, and Sam Mears clocked in at 1:56.22, just .2 shy of first place.
Marion D'Aurora would dominate the 1000 Free, winning with a time 11:19.69.
Maddie Bartrug would also secure an easy victory, winning the 200 Free with a time of 2:00.25.
D'Aurora would claim another victory, this time posting a first place time of 1:02.21 in the 100 Fly. Lewis would find victory as well in the 50 Free, touching the wall at 26.01.
In the 100 Free, Bartrug would take the top spot with a notable 55.58, and then she would win again in the 50 Fly, as she checked in with a time of 27.84.
A victory in the 500 Free would be the third of the day for D'Aurora, who finished with a time of 5:30.87. In the 200 IM, what started as a competitive back-and-forth race would end with Grove taking first place and Krecota finishing right behind in second place. The Bearcat teammates finished with times of 2:22.97 and 2:23.64, respectively.
Jacob Davis would secure the first victory for the men's team, in the 200 Free, setting a new pool record in the process. The All-American from a season ago finished with a strong time of 1:43.51.
In the 50 Breaststroke,
John Martin out-touched Mount Union's Nick Dye to claim victory with a time of 27.67.
Zach Baum would then use a strong performance to win the 100 Fly (51.38).
Davis and J. Martin would attain victory again in the 100 Backstroke and 100 Breaststroke, respectively. Davis touched the wall at 53.62, and J. Martin won with a 1:00.75.
In the final event, the Men's 200 Free Relay, the quartet of
Danny Whirlow,
Kevin Martin, Baum, and Davis came up short in second place with a time of 1:29.42.
Over winter break, the Bearcat swim teams travel down to Cocoa Beach, Florida, where they will face off against the University of Mary Washington in another non-conference meet; the meet will commence at 2 pm.
