Saturday's Recap
The Saint Vincent men's swimming team finished third overall with 687 points at the annual three-day long Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Grove City College.
The Bearcats finished behind first place Westminster (908) and second place Grove City (903). SVC finished ahead of W&J (248) and Bethany (185).
The highlight of the day came in the final event of the championships, as SVC finished up the meet with a PAC title and new school record in the 400 Free relay. The quartet consisting of
Zach Baum,
John Martin,
Alex Bolen and
Jacob Davis, clocked in with a time of 3:05.00.
Davis claimed his third Individual PAC title of the meet in the 100 Free, clocking in at 44:36. Davis broke the school record, the conference record and qualified for NCAA nationals. For his efforts, Davis was named PAC Men's Swimmer of the Year. Davis becomes the first SVC swimmer in history to earn the honor.
Baum won the PAC title in the 200 Butterfly, establishing a new school record time of 1:53.47. Baum was also awarded as the Bearcats' representative on the PAC Sportsmanship team.
In the 1650, Bolen claimed third place overall, clocking in at 16:51.02.
Kevin Martin took fourth place by posting a time of 17:07.71.
Benon Brewer took seventh place, touching the wall at 17:17.95.
Adam Gordish took eighth place in the 200 Backstroke, clocking in at 2:00.58. The senior also took seventh in the 200 Butterfly, with a time of 2:01.43.
In the 200 Breaststroke,
John Martin came in third clocking in at 2:10.11.
Kam Faychak in fourth touching the wall at 2:10.93.
Michael Marinchak in sixth place with a time of 2:13.23.
Peter Becker got the eighth spot with a time of 2:18.10.
Friday's Recap
The Saint Vincent men's swimming team remains in third place after a strong Friday session at the 2017-2018 Presidents' Athletic Conference Swimming Championships, hosted by Grove City College.
After day two the men have totaled 438 points. Grove City moved up to first place with 594 points, with defending champ Westminster (583) in second, W&J sits in fourth (177) and Bethany (127) is in fifth.
Highlighting the night was a pair of first place finishes, as freshman
Zach Baum claimed the PAC title in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 49.29. The time established a new school record, a new Grove City pool record, a new PAC meet record while also achieving a NCAA National "B" cut time in the event.
Jacob Davis continued his stellar PAC Championship run, claiming the PAC title in the 200 Free by topping three-time defending champion Mitch Stahara of Westminster. Davis set a new school record and a NCAA National "B" cut time, touching the wall at 1:39.88. Bolen came in fifth place in the event, clocking in at 1:44.00.
The Bearcats started off Friday with the 200 Medley Relay. The quartet of Davis,
John Martin, Baum and
Alex Bolen claimed second place with a time of 1:32.21. The time established a new school record in the event.
In the 400 Individual Medley, freshman
Kevin Martin took fourth place with a time of 4:16.66, while teammate
Andrew Rectenwald placed eighth at 4:25.84.
In the 100 Breaststroke,
John Martin claimed fourth place touching the wall at 59.57.
Kam Faychak (1:00.00) was sixth,
Michael Marinchak (1:00.29) in seventh, and
Peter Becker (1:00.58) in eighth.
Adam Gordish took sixth place in the 100 Backstroke touching the wall at 54.61.
Finishing up the evening, the 800 Free Relay team of
Kevin Martin,
John Martin, Gordish and Bolen, which finished in third place with a time of 7:13.73.
The PAC Championships wrap up Saturday with preliminary round swimming starting at 10 a.m. Senior recognition takes place at 5:15 before Saturday's finals commence at 5:30 p.m.
Thursday's Recap
The Saint Vincent men's swimming team sits in third place after the opening day of the 2017-2018 Presidents' Athletic Conference Swimming Championships, hosted by Grove City College.
Defending champion Westminster College is in first place with 291 points, while host Grove City ranks in second with 259 points.
The first Bearcat win of the night came from the 200 Free relay.
Alex Bolen,
John Martin,
Jacob Davis and
Zach Baum, clocked in with a time of 1:22.88, to take the PAC Championship in the event. Baum recorded a NCAA National "B" cut in the 50 Free with a time of 20.65.
Davis claimed the PAC title for the second year in a row in the 50 Free, with a time of 20.29, breaking his previous school record and hitting the NCAA National "B" cut. His time currently ranks among the top 10 in Division III in the event.
Baum claimed top honors in the 200 Individual Medley, touching the wall at 1:53.06, breaking both the school record and the Longnecker Competition Pool record.
John Martin came in sixth in the event, with a time of 1:59.01.
In the 500 Free, Bolen took fifth place, clocking in at 4:43.73, a time that breaks the school record in the event.
To finish off the night, Saint Vincent took second place in the 400 Medley relay, as
Adam Gordish,
Kam Faychak, Baum and Davis finished with a school record-breaking time of 3:26.05.
The PAC Championships continue with day two on Friday (February 16). Preliminary and finals will be contested in the 400 IM, the 100 Fly, the 20 Free, the 100 Breast, the 100 Back, the 200 Medley Relay and the 800 Free Relay events.
