The SVC baseball team concluded its weekend trip to Newport News, Virginia with an 8-2 loss to Tufts University in a non-conference game.
The game was scoreless through the first four innings thanks to strong mound work by SVC starter
Matt Whittaker (1-2).  In the 5th, the Jumbos got on the board, scoring two runs on three hits and a hit batsman.  Tufts added a run in the sixth, but
Mark Locke came out of the bullpen to end a scoring threat, keeping the score at 3-0.
Tufts broke the game open in the 7th, with five runs on three hits and one Bearcat error.
Saint Vincent got on the board in the bottom of 7th. Â
Matt Morrone singled and moved to second on a ground out, then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Â An
Eddie Kilkeary ground ball brought home Morrone. Â In the 9th, Morrone again singled and was driven in by Kilkeary, this time with a single.
SVC is now 4-8 on the year and - weather permitting - will host the 2018 home opener on Tuesday (March 20) as Mount Aloysius travels to Latrobe for a non-conference doubleheader. Â
