Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Bearcats defeat local rival UPG for third straight win

The Saint Vincent men's tennis team closed out a two-match homestand with an 8-1 victory over local rival Pitt-Greensburg at the Greensburg Racquet Club.

The Bearcats set the tone early claiming two of three doubles points. Jonathan Prichard and Jon Oskin built upon a strong showing in their previous match to claim first doubles by a score of 8-1, while Ryan Hartz and Zach Fox bounced back from an early season loss to win 8-2 in the second position.

In singles play, Saint Vincent swept the visiting Bobcats to close out the match. Singles play was highlighted by a 7-5, 7-5 marathon match in the sixth spot that saw Luke Good win his first collegiate match. In the third position, sophomore Riley Maruca won 10 straight games to erase a 5-3 first set deficit and win 7-5, 6-0 against his high school teammate, Terrance Madarish.

With the victory Saint Vincent extends its winning streak to three straight and improves their overall record to 3-6 for the year. The Bearcats will return to action with a Presidents' Athletic Conference match against the Thiel Tomcats on Friday, March 23.
