LATROBE, Pa. (April 21) - The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team fell by a 22-1 score to first place and Ohio River Lacrosse Conference unbeaten Transylvania University in Latrobe.
The Pioneers drew first blood, getting an unassisted score with 25:33 left in the first half. Saint Vincent quickly countered less than two minutes later when senior
Maggie Nelson found the back of the net for 112th goal of the season. From there the Pioneers took control, dominating the remainder of the first half with nine straight goals to take a 10-1 edge after 30 minutes of play.
Transylvania continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring SVC by a 12-0 margin to earn the dominant victory. The Pioneers held several large statistical advantages: shots (48-9), ground balls (28-19) and draw controls (18-6). Saint Vincent also held trouble clearing the ball, as they were successful just 10 times on 25 attempts.
Junior
Maria Franey recorded 16 saves over 60 minutes of work in net. Junior
Corinne Burk put together a strong effort on defense, with a game-high six ground balls and four caused turnovers.
The loss drops Saint Vincent to 10-3 overall and 7-2 in ORLC contests. Transylvania stays unbeaten in league action, moving to 9-0 and pushing its overall record to 14-1.
Saint Vincent travels to Westminster College on Tuesday, April 24. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
