RICHMOND, Ind. (April 8) - Behind a single-game program high 11 goals from senior
Maggie Nelson, the Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team scored an 17-5 victory over Earlham College in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference play.
The win improves SVC to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in ORLC play. Earlham moves to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in league contests.
Nelson helped SVC race out to an early 5-1 lead with 15:18 left in the first half. Nelson tallied four of the first five scores, with the other goal coming from
Naomi Schwaiger. After a goal by the hosts made it 5-2, Saint Vincent ripped off four more unanswered goals to take a 9-2 lead at the 5:36 mark. Schwaiger and
Courtney Kloos finished the first half scoring for the Bearcats, helping extend the advantage to 11-3 at the break.
Nelson started the second half with back-to-back goals to push the lead to double figures at 13-3. After Earlham broke the Saint Vincent goal streak, the Bearcats scored four straight again, three of which came from Nelson. The hosts tacked on a late goal to finish the scoring at 17-5.
Nelson added an assist for a total of 12 points to go along with three draw controls and two ground balls. Schwaiger tallied five goals, while Kloos added a goal and
Rachel Belles added an assist.
Alex Piampiano recorded a team-high six ground balls, while Belles tacked on five ground balls and five draw controls.
Corinne Burk picked up four ground balls to lead the defense.
Maria Franey made seven saves over 60 minutes of work in goal.
