Bearcats offense overwhelms Hilbert in 4-1 win

HAMBURG, N.Y. (Sept. 15) - The Saint Vincent women's soccer team rolled up 46 shots in a 4-1 road win over Hilbert College in non-conference action in New York.

The Bearcats broke open the scoring when senior midfielder Natalie Luppold tallied an unassisted strike for her first goal of the season in the 15th minute of play. The host Hawks evened the contest in the 26th minute with a goal by Gina Mallone, which was assisted by Brianna Stegmeier.

Saint Vincent would regain the lead for good just before halftime when senior Corinne Burk recorded her first collegiate goal in the 43rd minute. Burk, who has played the vast majority of her career in goal, stepped up big time in her first start of the season as a field player.

Junior midfielder Leah Memmo continued her strong play in the midfield, when she tallied her first goal of the season, blasting the ball from inside the box to the top left corner of the net to beat the Hilbert goalkeeper.

Freshman Kierstin Renninger concluded the scoring in the 85th minute when she extended the Bearcat edge to 4-1. Renninger scored off of a cross in the box from Kristin Marsh to score her first collegiate goal.

Luppold paced the offense with 11 shots, including four on goal, which included her goal. Burk tacked on eight shots, including a team-high six on net, including her first career goal. Senior forward Katie Ryan added seven shots in the contest.

Sophomore goalkeeper Abigail Johnson earned her first collegiate victory in net. Johnson stopped five shots over 90 minutes of action.

Saint Vincent held statistical advantages in shots (46-9), shots on goal (18-6) and corner kicks (17-0).

The win moves the Bearcats to 3-2 overall while the Hawks fall to 0-6 for the season.

Saint Vincent hosts Pitt Bradford on Tuesday, Sept. 18. Start time is set for 4 p.m. The match will be the first of three straight at home to wrap up non-conference play for the Bearcats.
