LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 18) - Second half goals by
Kristin Marsh and
Natalie Luppold helped the Saint Vincent College women's soccer team erase a halftime deficit in a 2-1 win over Pitt Bradford at UPMC Field.
Both teams battled through a defensive first half, as Pitt-Bradford got the benefit of an own goal by Saint Vincent to take a 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.
Saint Vincent regrouped and came out firing early on in the second half. Marsh found the back of the net in the 52nd minute, sending a header past the UPB goalie of a corner kick from junior
Leah Memmo, which allowed SVC to tie the score at 1-1.
The goal was the fifth of the season for Marsh, who now ranks second in the PAC in goals this season. The assist for Memmo puts her in a tie for the most among conference players thus far in 2018.
Luppold gave the Bearcats the lead for good in the 58th minute when she tallied a goal for second straight game. Luppold was set up on a pass from freshman
Hannah Irvine.
For the match, SVC held advantages in shots (17-7) and corner kicks (6-3) over Pitt Bradford.
Luppold recorded a match-best seven shots, including her goal. Meanwhile, Marsh added three shots, which included her score.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Abigail Johnson earned the victory in net, stopping one shot in 90 minutes of action.
The win is the second straight for SVC, who improves to 4-2 on the season. UPB drops to 1-5 overall.
