LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 22) - Three first half goals lifted Hood College to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Saint Vincent men's soccer team on a cool afternoon at UPMC Field.

The visiting Blazers tallied the only goal they would need when Clay Smith scored off of a rebound in the 10th minute. Smith would then find Ricky Salgado less than a minute later to push the Hood lead to 2-0. The Blazers tacked on another goal before halftime when Smith found Jake Hynson in the 32nd minute.

Neither team would score in the second half as Hood earned the non-conference victory. For the match, Hood held sizable statistical advantages over SVC in shots (26-8), shots on goal (10-3) and corners (5-1).

Saint Vincent was led by Cris White and Frank Singer, who tallied two shots apiece in the loss. Nick Bohn started and suffered the loss in goal. Bohn allowed three goals and registered five saves. Matthew Balas played the second half, holding Hood scoreless and making a pair of saves.

The loss drops SVC to 1-8 overall while Hood improves to 5-1-1.

Saint Vincent wraps up non-conference play when they travel to Penn State Brandywine on Wednesday, Sept. 26. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
