Fast start leads Bearcats to 82-58 win over Chatham

The SVC women's basketball team extended its winning streak to 12 games with an 82-58 Presidents' Athletic Conference win over the Chatham Cougars. The Bearcats' record now sits at 14-2 (8-0 PAC).

The win sees the Bearcats remain undefeated in conference play (14-2, 8-0).  Saint Vincent shot an impressive 49.2 percent from the field and connected on nine threes (47.4 percent).

Carlee Kilgus assisted Kayla Slovenec on a three to cap an 8-0 run in the first quarter to put the Bearcats ahead 12-4.  Steals on consecutive possessions by Jenna Lafko and Paige Montrose led to four straight Lafko points, extending the Bearcats' lead to 20-11 with 2:59 remaining in the first quarter.

Maria Morgan assisted Lafko on a three at the 1:23 mark to make the score 27-14.

The Bearcats continued their strong offensive play in the second quarter.  Morgan scored eight consecutive points for the Bearcats in the second quarter to extend SVC's lead to 35-17. Its lead extended to 26 points after Lafko assisted Taylor Boring at the 1:30 mark.

The Bearcats led 48-24 at halftime. 

Slovenec got things going offensively in the second half by knocking down a three 20 seconds into the quarter.  Bri Van Volkenburg scored to extend the Bearcats' lead to 35 (69-34).

Despite being outscored by Chatham 22-13 in the fourth quarter, the Bearcats cruised to a 24-point victory.

The Bearcats had three players score double digits. Slovenec led all scorers with 17 points and went 6-10 from the field. Morgan hit four threes and finished with 16 points. Kilgus added 11 points and seven assists.  Ashley McClain led the Cougars (8-9, 4-4) with 14 points. 

The SVC women's basketball team faces W&J College in a PAC home game on Saturday at 4 p.m.
