Former high school teammates
Eduardo Richa and
Roberto Fulweiler each scored as the Bearcats defeated Bethany College by a score of 2-0 at UPMC Field.
Just over six minutes into play, Richa took control of the ball, beat his defender, and placed a shot into the lower left corner of the net, putting SVC in front 1-0. The score remained that way for the rest of the first half, as the Bearcats controlled the ball much of the time. In the first 45 minutes of action, Saint Vincent tallied 8 shots while holding the Bison to just one.
Less than 90 seconds into the second half, Fulweiler, who like Richa played his high school ball at Saint Benedict's Prep in New Jersey, doubled the Bearcat lead, scoring for the fourth time this season.
Meanwhile, SVC keeper
Zachary Gibbons was put to the test later in the half. In the closing minutes, a series of four quick shots were taken by the Bison, with Gibbons making saves on all four, holding onto the ball after the fourth shot, ending the threat. They were the only four saves he needed to make on the afternoon.
For the game, SVC held the advantage in shots, 16-9. Â
Saint Vincent is now 1-1-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, while Bethany drops to 1-2. SVC returns to action on Saturday, October 19, traveling to Beaver Falls to face Geneva College. Â
