FULL RESULTS
The Saint Vincent Bearcat swim teams journeyed to the University of Mount Union for non-conference competition in the second meet of the season. The Bearcat women claimed a close victory, scoring 133 points to Mount Union's 129, while the Bearcat men lost, 162-100.
The women move to 2-0 overall, while the men fall to 1-1.
The quartet of
Lauren Connors,
Claire Kenna,
Katie Kozy, and
Cara Luallen hit the wall at 1:53.08 to open the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay.
Marion D'Aurora would then dominate the 1000 Freestyle, taking first place with a 11:29.91.
In addition to the team medley win, Connors had a slew of victories, winning the 100 Backstroke (1:00.24), 200 Backstroke (2:15.82), and the 200 IM (2:18.20).
In the 50 Freestyle,
Erica Steele was victorious. Her time was a 25.76. Not far behind her was Luallen, who took third at 26.64. Shortly after in the 100 Freestyle, Kenna took home her second victory with a time of 57.01.
D'Aurora returned to the top in the 200 Butterfly and the 500 Freestyle, where she clocked in at 2:18.11 and 5:33.33, respectively.
The women were down by seven points going into 100 Butterfly, but Kozy would win an important victory with a time of 1:00.41. Steele was in support, securing third place with a 1:05.30. They brought the margin to a two-point gap. The 200 Freestyle relay of Kozy, Luallen, Steele, and Kenna would seal the meet for the women; their victory came at 1:42.62.
Even though the Bearcat men struggled to gain ground, notable victories were attained by
Zach Baum, who won the 50 Freestyle (21.8), the 100 Freestyle (48.47), and the 100 Butterfly (52.02).
John Martin was also successful in the 200 Breaststroke, hitting the wall at 2:18.73 to claim first place.
The men were also victorious in the 200 Freestyle Relay, where the quartet of
Kris Smith,
Ethan Yant,
Danny Whirlow, and Baum clocked in at 1:29.21.
Next week, both Bearcat teams face Allegheny College in their first home meet of the season, which will occur on Friday, November 1. The meet will begin at 6 pm.
