The Saint Vincent Bearcat swim teams hosted the Grove City Wolverines for their second conference meet of the 2019-2020 season. In a pair of close matches, SVC lost by scores of 137-120 on the men's side, and 136-126 for the women.
Benon Brewer achieved the first victory for the men in the 1000 Freestyle. His time was a 10:46.95. In the next event, the 200 Freestyle,
Kevin Martin won with a 1:51.35 effort.
Zach Baum had a strong evening, winning the 50 Freestyle (21.13), the 100 Freestyle (48.40), and the 100 Butterfly. Baum's remarkable 50.99 finish in the 100 Fly broke his own pool record.
In the 200 Freestyle Relay,
Kris Smith,
Danny Whirlow,
Ethan Yant, and Baum took first place with a time of 1:28.09.
The women began the meet with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay, as the all-freshmen quartet of
Lauren Connors,
Sara Basala,
Katie Kozy, and
Erica Steele clocked in at 1:52.47.
Connors returned to the top in the 100 Backstroke, where her impressive swim set a new pool record, with a time of 1:00.88. She further found success in the 200 Backstroke, where she finished with a 2:14.34.
Marion D'Aurora also achieved a pair of victories, in the 200 Freestyle and the 500 Freestyle. Her times were 2:01.26 and 5:36.05, respectively. In the 50 Freestyle,
Claire Kenna took the top spot with a 25.13. A short time later, she built on her success by winning the 100 Freestyle at 56.33.
Kozy,
Cara Luallen, Steele, and Kenna concluded the meet with a win in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Their time was a 1:41.30.
The men's team is now 1-4 overall, 1-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. The SVC women are now 2-3 overall, 1-1 in the PAC.
Next week, both Bearcat swim teams travel to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for an invitational meet hosted by Franklin & Marshall College. The meet will begin on Friday, November 22 and conclude on Sunday, November 24.
