The SVC women's basketball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference play with an 84-47 victory at home over Washington & Jefferson College.

The Bearcats got on the board in the game's opening minute, as
Paige Montrose came up with a steal and a layup on the other end of the court.Â
Madison Kollar then doubled the lead to four with a score off a
Kayla Slovenec pass at the 8:05 mark.

After W&J took a 5-4 lead, the Bearcats went on a 7-point run, including four straight points by
Jenna Lafko to make it 11-5. After a Presidents' score, SVC went on another run, this time a 6-0 break, including three from Lafko on a conventional three-point play and a long-range three from
Carlee Kilgus that made it 17-7 with four minutes left in the first quarter. At the end of the quarter, the Bearcats held an 8-point advantage, 24-16. Â

In the second quarter, a Montrose jumper from the baseline made ran the lead back to double digits, 30-19, and a steal by Kilgus later led to an open layup by
Erin Giancola that put SVC in front by a score of 34-21.

A Kollar three at the 2:08 mark was followed by a jumper from Giancola that gave the Bearcats a 41-23 lead, and SVC went into the locker room ahead by 20, 45-25.

Twelve points from Lafko in the first four minutes of the third quarter put SVC ahead 59-27, putting the game out of reach. Lafko tallied 17 points in the quarter, as the Bearcats opened a 70-34 lead.

The fourth quarter was more evenly played, as the Bearcats cruised to the 37-point victory.

Lafko led all scorers with 26 points in just 21 minutes, shooting 10-for-14 from the floor. Kollar added 16 points in 19 minutes, while Kilgus had 12 assists to go along with 9 rebounds.
Bri Van Volkenburg added 6 rebounds. Kilgus and Lafko each had four steals.

Saint Vincent is now 4-1 on the season, while W&J drops to 5-3. SVC will be back in action on Saturday (December 7), hosting Grove City College at 4:00 p.m.
