The Saint Vincent baseball team improved to 6-1 on the season with an 8-3 victory over Albion College in a game held in Kissimmee, Florida.
Jimmy Malone worked into the 7th inning and picked up his second win of the week (2-0), while
Matt Evans earned his third save.
SVC got on the board in the second inning, when
Matt Morrone drew a leadoff walk then moved to second on a wild pitch. Â
Nick LaCava drew a walk, then
Mike Hildebrand attempted to bunt the runners ahead, but ended up with an infield single. Â The throw attempting to get Hildebrand ended up going wide, and the error brought home Morrone. Â
Shane Fajt hit a sacrifice fly that plated LaCava, making it 2-0.
In the fourth, Hildebrand reached on another infield single, and
Parker Janosko followed with a single to right.  Hildebrand headed for third and the throw sailed over a low fence on the third base line, scoring Hildebrand to give SVC a 3-1 lead.
Up 3-1 in the 7th, SVC started a rally with a one-out walk to Janosko. Â Pinch runner
Christopher Miller moved to second on a Fajt single, then
Tanner Yard singled to load the bases. Â
Stone Holtzman drove in Miller with a sacrifice fly, then
Hunter Mills brought home another run with an RBI single, making it 5-1.
After Albion (4-4) added a run in the 7th, Evans closed the door on a potential rally, coming on in relief of Malone with one out. Â
Morrone reached on a bunt single to lead off the top of the 8th, then with the infield drawn in, LaCava bluffed a bunt but swung away, hitting a double down the left field line that moved Morrone to third. Â
Zach Barberich drove in both runners with a single to right, giving SVC a 7-2 lead.  A
Bobby Finn RBI double in the 9th accounted for the final SVC run.
The Bearcats end their trip to Florida with a record of 6-1, and will return to action on Saturday, March 16 in Newport News, Virginia. Â
