Fred Gillespie threw a three-hitter as the Bearcats defeated Geneva College by a score of 6-1, giving head coach Mick Janosko his 400th career victory.

Tanner Yard singled to lead off the bottom of the first, and was replaced on first by Stone Holtzman, who reached on a fielder's choice.  Matt Morrone then singled, moving Holtzman to third.  Bobby Finn followed with a sacrifice fly that brought home the game's first run.

Geneva tied the game in the top of the third, but the Bearcats answered quickly.  In the bottom of the third, Joe Rudzinski drew a leadoff walk, then advanced to second on a Morrone single.  Finn then cleared the bases with a two-run triple down the right field line, putting SVC in front, 3-1.

An inning later, Nick LaCava and Hunter Mills both singled to lead off.  Mike Hildebrand tried to bunt the runners ahead, but the throw to first was dropped, allowing LaCava to hustle home from second.  Rudzinski singled home Mills, giving SVC a 5-1 lead.

The Bearcats added to their lead in the 6th, when Mike Hildebrand was hit by a pitch, took second uncontested, then scored on a single by Rudzinski.

From there, it was all Gillespie, as the junior went the distance, giving up just three hits and no earned runs.  He walked one and struck out five batters.

Offensively, Rudzinski was 2-for-2 and drove in two runs, while Finn was 1-3 with three runs batted in.  Morrone and LaCava had two hits each.

Saint Vincent is now 16-10 overall, 9-5 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.  Geneva falls to 6-15, 1-10 in the PAC.

The Bearcats return to action on Saturday (April 13) with a non-conference doubleheader against former PAC foe Thomas More University.  Game one begins at 12noon.
