The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team traveled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for its regular season finale against Chatham University. The Bearcats were victorious 17-11 and clinched a spot in the Presidents' Athletic Conference playoffs.
Naomi Schwaiger opened the scoring 28 seconds into the game with an assist from
Joey Smith.
The Cougars tied and then took the lead seven minutes later as they led 2-1.
Schwaiger tied the game with another goal of a Smith pass. However, Chatham regained the lead with 18:48 left in the first half.
Three minutes later,
Maura Hevey evened the game at three. Schwaiger then completed the hat trick as she gave Saint Vincent its first lead of the game. Smith followed with her first goal of the contest it extend the lead to two (5-3).
Schwaiger netted another goal, this time with 8:23 to go in the first. Six minutes later,
Courtney Kloos scored a goal on a man-up situation followed by Schwaiger scoring the final goal of the half. Saint Vincent led 8-3 going into the break.
In the second half, the Cougars scored the first two goals to cut the deficit to five. Smith scored the first Bearcat goal of the second half at the 27:40 mark. Schwaiger followed it as she scored when Saint Vincent was a man-down.
Smith completed the hat trick a couple minutes later and pushed the lead to six (11-5). A minute later,
Rachel Belles scored her first goal of the contest with an assist from Smith.
Chatham scored two more goals that were separated by Hevey scoring her second of the game with a helper from Smith.
Schwaiger then scored two more goals in a span of 1:43 with Belles assisting on one. Belles then scored with 8:36 remaining in regulation as
Calsey Holshue picked up an assist. Schwaiger then scored the final Saint Vincent goal off a pass from
Julianne Rosa.
The Cougars scored the final four goals as the Bearcats won by the six-goal margin.
Schwaiger led the team as she scored season-high nine goals. Smith added three goals and five assists to the victory. Sam Miller started in net for Chatham while
Maria Franey started in goal for the Bearcats as she made seven saves.
Saint Vincent is now 4-7, 4-3 in the PAC and will face number one-seed Westminster College in the PAC Playoffs on Tuesday, April 30. Start time is 6:00 p.m.
