The Saint Vincent men's tennis team defeated Mount Aloysius College in a non-conference match on Senior Day at the Greensburg Racquet Club. The final score was 7-2.
Zach Fox and
Mauricio Sanchez put the first point on the board for the Bearcats with an 8-2 win at #2 doubles. Shortly after that, the lead grew to 2-0 when
Alex DeLuca and
Josh Boland won the #3 match by the same score.
Up 2-1 heading into singles play, the Bearcats quickly put the match away with victories in five of the six singles matches. First, Fox won the #4 match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, followed by
Riley Maruca's 6-3, 6-0 win at #6 singles. The match was clinched with a win by Sanchez in the #2 match, but he had to go to a tiebreaker to do it. After winning 6-2 in the first set, he dropped the second set 6-4 but stormed back to win the tiebreaker, 10-1.
Ryan Hartz and DeLuca also posted straight set wins in their respective #3 and #5 singles matches to finish the day.
Saint Vincent is now 7-3 overall on the season. The team will next face Penn State-Altoona on the road on Monday (April 8) at 4PM.
