The Saint Vincent baseball team dropped game one of a doubleheader by a 1-0 margin in a pitcher's duel at Bearcat Ballfield, before coming back to win the second game, 9-6 on Senior Day.

In game one, the Presidents threatened in the top of the fourth, with back-to-back singles to start the inning, and a one-out single to left that loaded the bases.  However, SVC starter Jimmy Malone then induced a pop up for the second out, then finished the inning with a strikeout, preserving the scoreless tie.

In the top of the seventh, W&J's Adam Moore led off with a double to deep center, and Joey Bolick followed with a sacrifice bunt attempt.  The ball was thrown to third in an effort to throw Moore out, but he beat the throw, putting runners at first and third with no outs.  A suicide squeeze bunt by Spencer Howell then scored the game's first run.  The next batter attempted another suicide squeeze bunt, but Tanner Yard threw to the plate and Parker Janosko held onto the ball despite a collision, for the first out of the inning.

Ramon Milke singled with two out in the bottom of the seventh, just the team's second hit of the game off W&J's Ben Marsico (9-1).   Matt Morrone had a double for the other SVC hit.

Malone (6-3) took the hard-luck loss, going the distance and striking out 10, a career high.

Game two started with the visitors scoring twice in the top of the first off SVC starter Casey Jones to take the early lead.  In the bottom of the second, Bobby Finn drew a leadoff walk, then moved to third when Ramon Milke doubled to right.  Nick LaCava followed with an infield single deep into the hole at short, scoring Finn and moving Milke to third.  Parker Janosko followed with a single to right that scored Milke, tying the game at 2-2.

With two out in the bottom of the fourth, TJ Dailey took a 2-strike pitch to deep left center for a double, then Shane Fajt followed with a run-scoring single, putting SVC in front, 3-2.

In the top of the fifth, Mullen Socha hit a solo home run for W&J, tying the game at 3-3, but the Bearcats answered quickly.  Yard singled to lead off, then moved up 90 feet when Stone Holtzman reached on an infield hit.  Morrone hit a chopper to short and was able to reach on a fielder's choice, as the shortstop hesitated and looked to third before throwing to first.  Yard scored on the play, putting SVC in front, 4-3.  Finn then brought home Holtzman with a sacrifice fly, increasing the advantage to two runs.

Nick LaCava then sent a drive to the base of the fence in left center, scoring Morrone to make it 6-3.

In the top of the 8th, the Presidents got a pair of runners on base, but Jones bounced back from a 3-0 count to pinch-hitter Joey Bolick to get a strikeout, preserving the three-run lead.

Joe Rudzinski singled home a run in the bottom of the eighth to pad the lead, and Yard followed with a single to make the score 8-3.  Another single, this one from Holtzman, put the hosts in front by six runs.

The Presidents came back with three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but the Bearcats held on for the 9-6 victory.

Jones (8-1) worked 8+ innings, giving up four earned runs and striking out nine.

Saint Vincent is now 12-11 in the conference, 20-18 overall.  The team will wrap up the season on Sunday (May 5) with a single, 9-inning game at Washington & Jefferson.
