The Saint Vincent men's soccer team hosted Penn State-Altoona in a non-conference battle, and won its first match of the year by defeating the Lions, 1-0.

In the second half, it was an even battle between Penn State-Altoona and Saint Vincent. Both teams had several opportunities to score but both goalies denied the chances. The Lions had a late push in half by controlling the ball in the Bearcats end. However, SVC stood its ground and held on for the 1-0 victory.

Saint Vincent finished with 15 shots while Penn State-Altoona totaled nine. Freshman
Zachary Gibbons started in net and saved all five shots he faced for his first collegiate victory.

Saint Vincent improves to 1-6 and looks to continue its play on the road against Hood College on Saturday, Sept. 21. Start time is 1 p.m.
