The Saint Vincent Bearcat swim teams claimed victory over Chatham University in the new year's first Presidents' Athletic Conference meet. The men finished with a score of 77 to 21 and the women scored 176 points to 103. Both teams' PAC record slide up to 3-1. In all competitions, the men are 3–4, and the women are 4-3.
Despite only having one Chatham male swimmer to compete against, the Bearcat men achieved several notable swims.
Kevin Martin the 200 Freestyle in 1:51.65, while
Danny Whirlow finished the 100 Freestyle in 49.99 followed by
Zach Baum's 2:15.12 in the 200 Breaststroke.
The women established themselves quickly, taking first and second place in the 200 Medley Relay. The relay of
Lauren Connors,
Sara Basala,
Katie Kozy, and
Claire Kenna touched first at 1:53.12, while the team of
Erica Steele,
Sarah Boyle, Lauren Kercota, and
Cara Luallen finished second at 1:58.30.
The freshmen trio of Kozy, Basala, and Connors went on to claim multiple victories for the women throughout the meet. Kozy won the 100 and the 200 Freestyle with times of 56.25 and 2:04.66. Basala won the 100 Breaststroke (1:12.74) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:40.97) while Connors won the 100 Butterfly (1:01.17).
Marion D'Aurora attained a pair of triumphs in 1650 Freestyle and the 500 Freestyle. Her times were 18:51.55 and 5:33.14, respectively.
Lauren Krecota won the 200 Butterfly with a 2:22.36, while also conquering the 400 IM with a 5:04.46.
Next week, both Bearcat teams will greet Westminster College in Resnik Pool on Saturday, Jan. 25 for another conference competition. The meet will begin at 1 pm.
