Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball takes part in tri-match

The Saint Vincent College men's volleyball team traveled to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania for a tri-match against the host Geneva College and the University of Mount Union. The Bearcats fell to both the Purple Raiders and the Golden Tornadoes, 3-0.

In the opening set against Mount Union, it was the Purple Raiders who took early control of the set. Trailing 10-6, SVC won five of the next six points to take an 11-10 lead. Both teams went back and forth until Saint Vincent won four-straight to hold a 19-17 lead. Later in the set, the Bearcats were up 23-20 but Mount Union won six of the final seven points to win the set, 26-24. The second set was all Mount Union as it put together runs of four points or more on three separate occasions. The Purple Raiders won the set, 25-13.

The third set seemed to be similar to the second with Mount Union jumping out to an early lead. Down 17-12, Saint Vincent won six-straight points to take an 18-17 edge. The Purple Raiders regained the lead but SVC won the next three points to lead 23-22. Mount Union tied the set at 23 but a kill from Gage McCracken put the Bearcats one-point away from winning the third set. The Purple Raiders had other plans as they won the final three points to win the set, 26-24 and the match, 3-0.

In the second match against Geneva, the hosts separated themselves early in the first set with runs of five and six points. The Golden Tornadoes won the set, 25-12. The second set began similar to the first with Geneva grabbing an early 17-8 lead. Down 20-11, the Bearcats won nine out of the next 11 points to pull within two points. After a timeout, the Golden Tornadoes won the final three points to win the set, 25-20. In the third set, Saint Vincent took the early lead, 6-4. Geneva responded by winning 14 of the next 17 points to gain an 18-9 lead. SVC pulled within five but did not get any closer and ultimately fell, 25-17.

Mitchell Niderstros led the team with 15 kills for the day while Collin Neville added 14 kills. Matthew Furrer led the team 42 assists with 25 against Mount Union.
